The plan: You do have a plan though, right?

No, not really.

I have been telling people I am going to cycle from the north of the USA down to Argentina for the past few weeks. So I am kinda committed now.

But that is such an incomprehensible distance to me. The thought of it is absolutely terrifying. So I have been preparing for this like it is just a 1 week trip. Gear and what not should be the same, right?… Right?

In terms of the route, I am not prepping much. I will land in Seattle and head south along the pacific coast. I was thinking about doing the GDMBR but given my total lack of experience, I thought the pacific coast is a better idea. After this I will cross into Mexico and do the Baja Divide before heading to mainland Mexico and continuing south. I refuse to think further ahead than this other than the vague, far off potential goal of Ushuaia, Argentina.

That is mostly the height of my route planning. For a more specific day to day route I reckon that can be figured out on the go or in 2-3 day batches while on route. I do need to look up apps etc to help with this.

My other Prep has consisted of “I will bring camping gear and cooking gear and some bike maintenance gear”. I will write a gear list post here once I have most of my gear together.

My fitness is pretty shite but I hope that if I start slow with low daily mileage and very regular rest days, that I can build my fitness on the road. I am in no rush.

How much more planning do I really need to do? Ignorance is bliss I believe they say.
