Day 4: Rest day

First Rest day

My ego wanted to get up and do some miles today but promised myself I would start slow. So a rest day it is. I walked around elma this morning. This took about 10 minutes. It is a very small town.

Had a couple of chores to do. Got a cheap USA charger. I had been relying on my pre-charged power bank for the last few days and it was down to the last 20%. I can charge my power bank at about 20 watts now. Perfect.

Also caught up on some journal entries as well as some other online chores. I haven’t fully figured out a writing system I am fully happy with yet. I only have my phone and a foldable Bluetooth keyboard. For now I have a notes app on my phone that I jot down things during the day that become the bones of each day’s entry.

Also figured out how to download GPX tracks. Why oh why can’t you export these from the Garmin connect app? Having to sign into the website in the browser is just a pain. First world problems.

I thought I would have loads of time to read on my Kindle the last few days. But haven’t found that to be the case. So took time today to read the first few chapters in book 1 of the storm light archive on the recommendation of a friend.

I have 2 options for tomorrow. First is the book recommendation of going direct to Raymond. 2nd option is go indirect to Raymond by first going to the coast to twin harbors and then traveling along the coast to Raymond. The direct route goes past an abandoned nuclear power plant, which would be cool to see. The indirect route is the recommendation of the RV park owner who is also a bike tourer. It is supposedly much easier as it avoids a “4 mile long climb” but is also a day longer.  So harder and faster or longer and slower? Think I will outsource this decision.

Rest day so 2nd night at this camp site.
